| Agrodev carried out
three in-Canada training/study tour programs for
officers of the Environmental Protection
Administration of Taiwan on behalf of their
National Institute for Environmental Training.
The first
four-week program involved 20 EPA officers and
consisted of some 30 seminars/ lectures with a
major emphasis on environmental management and
auditing. It also included sessions on regulatory
frameworks, pollution prevention and control,
planning for sustainable development, ecosystem
management, hazardous waste management,
contaminated site remediation, monitoring,
pollution control technologies, regional
environmental planning and international
environmental issues. The program included case
studies, site visits and field trips in Ottawa,
Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.
The
subsequent two-week programs consisted of
seminars, case studies and site visits in six
cities and three Canadian provinces for 12 senior
officials of the EPA and representatives of the
Taiwan environment industry. In both cases, we
worked closely with NIET staff to learn about
program participants and their training needs; to
match program to those needs; and to schedule a
practical mixture of seminars, lectures, site
visits and recreational activities.
We also
ensured that participants received all the
materials, contacts and support they needed to
take maximum advantage of Canadian experience in
environmental management.
