Second Aquaculture Development
Northwest Frontier Province, Pakistan

This five year implementation project facilitated the shift of fish production from the government sector to the private sector. A series of demonstration farms was established to spur local interest in fish farming. The result was that fish production, formerly the mandate of the government, became the business objective of private fish farmers.

Support services such as fish feed production were also privatized. Government research programs shifted from fish feed production to research into improvement of fish feed and higher feed conversion ratios. Government production facilities for fish broodstock and fish seed for the private farmers were phased out towards the end of the project and shifted to the private sector.

Agrodev provided technical services in fish breeding, nursing, broodstock management, hatchery design and renovation, and database design and collection.

Training course curriculums were developed and an overseas training and study tour was implemented for officials.
