Agrodev assisted the Federated States of Micronesia in the strengthening of government- related institutions, and the development of fisheries-related infrastructure.

The initial assistance determined and analyzed the biological, geographic, economic, social and political dimensions of the fisheries sector, and prepared a fisheries policy.

Agrodev also provided technical assistance to the Micronesia Government and the Micronesia Longline Fishing Corporation in the design and procurement of a tuna fishing fleet. Technical assistance for vessel design and procurement consisted of preparing vessel concept design and specifications, preparing tender documents, and evaluating tenders. On the advice of Agrodev, it was ultimately decided that the purchase and refit of used vessels was a more economical solution than building new vessels. Agrodev again assisted with the design and the approval of the refits.
